Shannon Kimmel started working with insurance adjusters in 1996, after a short time in the wine and spirits business starting in 1994. He got his adjustment start while working for a large commercial and residential roofing company in Houston, Texas in 1996. In 1999, Kimmel left the company to open a roofing company of his own and a custom home building company, building residential and commercial buildings.
Shannon worked on a case of fire for a home his company had built in Houston, Texas, which was an accident caused by candles left burning on a tub. After working this case, Kimmel was told by the adjuster working with him that he should consider adjusting claims for insurance companies. In response, he obtained an adjuster’s license in 2002 and learned how to estimate the damage in fire and auto claims and apply coverage to all types of claims.
In 2003, Kimmel became an independent adjuster, working his first claims outside of Texas for Travelers Insurance hurricane claims in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He began working for State Farm in the aftermath of Hurricane Charley in 2004, in Punta Gorda, Florida. Since then and until 2011, he worked State Farm exclusively, working hurricane, large loss tornado, flood, fire, wind and hail, and local zone claims until late summer that year. In the late part of that year, Kimmel worked a hurricane and a hailstorm case for Farm Bureau in North Carolina.
It was a few depositions after his three-year stint as a Hurricane Ike adjuster for the 2-story steep team in the Greater Houston area that he would leave behind independent adjuster to become a public adjuster. He became disillusioned with the attitude of the insurance companies who were always trying to deny covering damages that should be covered losses. This led to his leaving State Farm adjusting to become an advocate for the insured. Shannon Kimmel started K2 Consulting and Services LLC. in the early part of 2012.
Kimmel has been designated as a star witness in civil cases and criminal cases brought against insurance companies on many occasions. He is an expert in wind-lifted and unsealed shingles. Shannon has testified in many cases before a jury in State Courts of Texas and Federal Courts throughout the United States.
He has settled many cases as a public adjuster and served as an umpire in appraisal cases along with handling hundreds of appraisal cases as an opposing appraiser. “Expert Witness” is a title he has become familiar with, as well as “consultant” throughout the United States.
When Shannon is not pursuing appropriate compensation for policyholders, he likes working for the people through government positions; he is a former City Council Member of the City of Friendswood. He also enjoys hunting and fishing and playing golf, as well as youth livestock programs and helping kids reach their goals in livestock projects throughout the United States. Shannon and his companies have been a part of the top 20 buyers at the San Antonio Rodeo and Livestock show for the last 4 years. Shannon and his wife, Lindy, have two children, Madeline and Hunter. Madeline is graduating from Texas A&M University in the fall of 2017 and Hunter is a sophomore at Friendswood High School. Shannon enjoys donating time to World Changers, a Christian Charity, by putting on new roofs for low-income housing during the summer. He and his family also enjoy traveling and spending time with their extended family.
